

These Autodesk resellers have nice discounts and promotions on the base package–just ask for a quote or add to the cart. (And upgrades beyond 3 years have higher “legacy” pricing.) Also, in a software base as vast as Maya, there are bound to be bugs, so you have to decide whether you want to live with those issues for 3 years at a time. However you need to wait exactly 3 years between upgrades to make that a cost-saving scheme.

They’ve priced upgrades such that it costs a little less to skip versions and upgrade than to buy subscription and always be up to date. Depending on which state/reseller you purchase from, they may or may not charge sales tax (be sure to check “use tax” rules come April 15th). Actually, Maya retails for $3,495 and subscription is $595.
